"None of my former Maquis colleagues recognize this photo." Uncle Pierre would have placed Susanna's
photo of Ted Treharne on the table, but the table was loaded with three bowls of bouillabaisse, an enormous bowl of clam, mussel, and shrimp shells, garlic bread, extra chili pepper rouille, and nearly empty glasses of Pinot Noir from Uncle Henri's winery outside of Dijon.
"My brother's chateau is not far from where Southern invasion forces linked up with Patton's Third Army at Saulieu on September 11, 1944," Uncle Pierre remarked, "but of course French officers did not plan routes through Burgundy that tread on superior vineyards. Why aren't you wearing an OM tee shirt?"
"This tee shirt elicits heated conversation, which serves my purpose of disguising my interest in antiques smuggling", Jack explained, proudly opening his jacket to fully display his team's logo, while Uncle Pierre paused to search for remaining pieces of seafood in his bouillabaisse and to order more Pinot Noir.
"The Dijon area was liberated months before the battle in the Ardennes", he said. "It is only about 4 hours from Bastogne, so it is possible that if an unafilliated Resistance crew rescued Ted Treharne, they took him down to Dijon. But, in the Ardennes they were probably collecting enemy guns or locating the whereabouts of German units, and unless they came from the Dijon area, I do not think that is what happened.
"However, Henri was with the FFI at the time of the meetup with Pattons's Third Army, and it is possible that he might recognize Treharne from the photo and thus could confirm Treharne's unit. You could also talk with the women in Henri's family -- in case they were interested in American soldiers."
